Have been very busy with work. Counselling patients with a chronic disease and with no end in sight can be painful to us doctors and to the family of patients. We are human beings and sometimes we react differently to such situations but as doctors we are bound to empathise with our patients. Modern hospitals now call patients as customers and I despise the word customer. My patients do pay me but they are not customers and I feel the day doctors start treating patients as customers that is going to be a sad day and many corporate hospitals run by non doctors dont want to accept that patients are not customers . The relationship between doctor and patient is divine and I owe my career and what ever little success I have with my patients to my guru and mentor Padma Bushan Prof BM Hegde of Manipal University. He taught me not only medicine but the way and philosophy of life. He told me that you should love your patients and than only they will get well. His favourite quote of cure some times , treat most times but care always for your patients .
Time is now 3pm and have to rush to our Hebbal Columbia Asia unit to see todays transplant case a young nigerian having second transplant.

Maiden attempt on blogging

Today is my first blog. Thanks to Mr Kamal D Shah s blog who has inspired me to be a blogger.
As a nephrologist treating kidney failue from early 1980 ( cant believe that I am nearly 30 years in this field) my whole approach to life has changed. My patients have taught me to smile and be human. I thank god for giving me a chance to serve the patients with this dreaded disease.

I love reading and watch TV mainly news and movies. I also love travelling and recently went to Alaska on a cruise with my family and that was once in a life time experience .
Time now is 2 pm and time to go for lunch after a busy transplant outpatient work. Most of our last weeks transplant are discharged and doing well. Nothing more heartening than the smile of a transplant patient with normal serum Creatinine!!
Signing off and hope to keep up the blog going .
